Riverine, Stacy Levy, 2009
From the artist's website:
"In my work, I mesh the clarity of diagrams, the beauty of natural forms and the visceral sense of the site. My art creates a comprehensible visual metaphor for an otherwise invisible natural process." – Stacy Levy
ABOUT THE ARTOSPHERE 2013 PROJECT
Stacy Levy will be creating an onsite art installation project for Northwest Arkansas as part of Artosphere 2013. She is highly interested in “changing the role of art in the community” by creating a sustainable piece that inspires people to improve the environmental issues of the site. She calls it, “art that works.” Stacy’s extensive experience in these types of installations will provide a new lens for people to become aware of and inspired to think about the natural environment.
Stacy will coordinate multiple visits to Northwest Arkansas to identify a compelling site to create the art installation. During this process, she will get to know the community and the natural landscape of the area. She will also meet with people, share her past work and talk about her process for creating art installations.
She has come to Northwest Arkansas for the installation of the Beyond Sublime exhibit in 2010
and will return in May of 2013 to explore the natural features of the region and participate in Artosphere programs. Stacy will then begin the design concept phase which she continues in her studio in central Pennsylvania. After conception of project ideas, Stacy will
return to Northwest Arkansas to discuss specific sites, construction plan and schedules, along with possible collaborations with other organizations. The direction of the final project and partners will be solidified and Stacy begins the fabrication of the piece. In spring for Artosphere 2013, Stacy will return to Northwest Arkansas and install the artwork onto the site with the help of community groups and volunteers.
